Deaf Catholic Pilgrimage to Assisi and Rome
Following in the Footsteps
of St Francis and the Apostles
What? A two-week pilgrimage to Assisi and Rome, conducted in ASL for D/deaf and hard of hearing Catholics.
Where? We will depart from Toronto for Fiumicino Airport in Rome, Italy. From there we will go to Assisi for four days, then to Rome and Vatican City for eight days.
When? The pilgrimage is tentatively scheduled for 8-21 October 2013 (dates may change), for two weeks.
Why? To learn about the Catholic faith and its history by following in the footsteps of St Francis of Assisi and the Holy Apostles.
Who? Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis with only twenty spots. Knowledge of ASL is required. The estimated cost of the event is $2900 out of Edmonton with a deposit of $500 due by 14 September 2012 (includes deposit, flight, hotel
reservations, and some meals).
About Our Guides: The pilgrimage will be led by Matthew Hysell, a Deaf seminarian who will be ordained Canada’s first Deaf priest in summer 2013, and organized by Greg Carrier, a deaf academic who has extensively studied the history of Italy and the Church.
